Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum invites history enthusiasts and families to experience the annual Civil War Weekend on July 20th and July 21st, 2024. The event promises a captivating journey back in time with an array of activities and demonstrations that bring the Civil War era to life.
The event kicks off on Saturday, July 20th, at 10:00 am and concludes at 4:00 pm. On Sunday, July 21st, activities begin at noon and continue until 4:00 pm. Standard admission fees apply, and tickets can be purchased at the Visitor Center.
Each year, Landis Valley transforms into a historical hub where visitors can witness the daily life and challenges faced by those living during the Civil War. From the strategic movements of soldiers to the logistical efforts of farmers, the weekend offers an immersive experience that highlights the era’s complexities. Wet Plate Photography emerged as a powerful tool for documenting history, capturing poignant moments from the war, see demonstrations of the Wet Plate Photography process and have your own portrait made on tintype for purchase on Saturday! The advent of the telegraph revolutionized communication, propelling newspaper production and contributing to the growth of the industry, which boasted approximately 2,500 publications by 1860, according to History.com.
