Landis Valley Children’s Educational Programs

The Landis Valley Children’s Educational Programs offer hands-on history camps, homeschool classes, and interactive workshops designed for children ages 5–11. Located at Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, these programs immerse young learners in 18th- and 19th-century life through crafts, chores, games, and Pennsylvania German traditions.

🧺 About Our Children’s Programs

The Landis Valley Children’s Educational Programs introduce children to the daily lives, skills, and traditions of early Lancaster County residents. Through immersive, hands-on experiences, students explore how people lived, worked, and played in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Designed around rotating historical themes, these programs bring history to life by focusing on:

  • Farm children and rural family life
  • Young apprentices learning trades
  • Tavern-keeping families and community life
  • Conestoga wagon drivers and early transportation
  • Craftsmen and women producing goods for everyday use

Children learn by doing—engaging in activities such as sewing, cooking, gardening, crafting, and building—just as children did more than 200 years ago.

🎓 Hands-On Learning Experience

The Landis Valley Children’s Educational Programs emphasize experiential learning through:

  • Historic crafts and make-and-take projects
  • Interactive storytelling and demonstrations
  • Traditional games and outdoor play
  • Practical skills and daily chores

Students gain a deeper understanding of a time when imagination and ingenuity transformed simple objects into toys and tools. Each program is designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and an appreciation for Pennsylvania German culture and early American life.
