Prerequisite: This is an advanced class. Students must have taken 5 classes with the instructor, Joan Betzold.
In early America a family most likely had a few sheep, not a flock. There were no clothes pins. Each sheep would be hand sheared and the priceless fleece carefully washed to get the lanolin and dirt etc. out. The wool drying basket is designed to hold one fleece and with legs to elevate, herringbone weave to ventilate, it was placed by the fire to dry the fleece.
This gorgeous basket is challenging and can be used for just about anything, including fleece drying.
Students need to bring: measuring tape, sharpened pencil, a brick wrapped in plastic wrap, 12 large wooden clip style clothespins, old towel, scissors, pocket knife, a small regular screwdriver, spray bottle, pail or dish pan to hold 2 gallons of water, lunch, drinks and snacks. Wear comfortable clothes.
