Shuttle Tatting, a Three-Part Class

Learn the basics of shuttle tatting in three short one-hour classes. All materials are included. Tatting is delicate form of lace-making; yet quite sturdy and strong because it is a series of knotted thread. It is one of the oldest kinds of lace; examples have been found in the tombs of Egypt. As we know it today, it probably came from italy in the 16th Century, when women adapted the skill from the fishermen mending their nets.

This shuttle tatting class will offer the basics of leaning to form rings, chains, and picots–joining them to make a small ornament, when the class is completed.

Bio: Theresa Jumper became intrigued with tatting when she saw this unique, delicate form of lace in needlework magazines. When the Kitnit Needleworks in Neffsville offered tatting classes in the early 1980’s, Theresa learned to tat from an excellent teacher from Ephrata. And since then, she has enjoyed making tatted doilies, ornaments, and jewelry.
