Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum, in collaboration with the Lancaster Designer Craftsmen chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen presents a free program on 14 June at 7:00 pm on the history of the slate industry in Pennsylvania and the United States and the uses of slate. The program is followed by a demonstration. The program is free, no reservations required and will be in the Yellow Barn. There will be signs to direct you to the building.
Mr. Don Robinson, of the Old Line Museum in Delta, PA, will present on the history of the slate industry, historic uses of slate, the immigration of Welsh quarrymen, and contemporary preservation efforts of related slate industry structures in Coulsontown, Pennsylvania. The presentation will be followed with a demonstration on slate splitting and shaping. If you are brave, you can try your hand at shaping slate!
