Join us for the Juneteenth Celebration at Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum, a meaningful community event commemorating the end of slavery in the United States and honoring African American history, resilience, and cultural traditions.

Presented in collaboration with regional partners, this special program is part of Landis Valley’s commitment to inclusive storytelling and its broader America 250 initiatives, connecting national history with local and regional experiences.

Honoring Freedom & History

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865—the day enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, it stands as a powerful moment of remembrance, reflection, and celebration.

At Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum, we are honored to host this event in partnership with community organizers who have sustained this tradition since 1997. The celebration also reflects a deeper local legacy, tracing its roots to the Lancaster Strawberry Festival, which began in 1905. By recognizing both the national significance of Juneteenth and the long history of Black community celebration in Lancaster, this event meaningfully connects freedom, heritage, and local tradition.

At Landis Valley, this event creates space to:

  • Reflect on the meaning of freedom
  • Recognize the contributions of African Americans to local and national history
  • Engage with stories that are essential to understanding the American experience
