Step back in time to the 1700’s and experience the everyday life and farming of the Pennsylvania Dutch through living history. See historic breeds and crops, pen-hearth cooking, and historic crafts such as leatherworking, blacksmithing, pottery, weaving, and tinsmithing. 

Fast Forward to Now:

Discover mechanized modern farming. Old-fashioned values with the latest technology.  See the awesome Cow Palace - where cows are treated like queens.  Your coach will drive right through the barn!  Watch the Milking Merry-go-Round, where the cows get on and off on their own, and learn astonishing facts—just what do you do with 42 tons of manure every day?

At Landis Valley you will enjoy a guided tour, horse-drawn wagon ride and tasting of sticky buns, apple snitz and apple cider.

At Kreider Farms you’ll ride in your coach through the dairy barn, followed by an ice cream cone treat at the Manheim Grill

Sweet ‘N’ Salty in Lancaster, PA

Experience historic Lancaster and Lititz while indulging in our Sweet ‘N’ Salty attractions. 

Start your day “Sweetly” when you travel to Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum.  Here you will travel thru time by way of horse-drawn wagon and experience a living history Pennsylvania Dutch (German) Village where costumed guides and traditional craftsmen interpret village live in the 1700-1800’s.  This tour will include a sampling of their famous ‘Sticky Buns’, Apple Schnitz and Cider.

Your “Sweet” journey continues as you travel to Lititz, “Lancaster County’s Sweet Spot” where you will savor the aroma of chocolate in the air, wafting from the Wilbur Chocolate Company.  Here you will watch candy makers hand dip chocolates right before your eyes and enjoy the collection of chocolate molds and memorabilia.  A video host will take you through the world of chocolate.

End your trip on a “Salty” note when you visit Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery.  At America’s first commercial pretzel bakery, you will learn how to twist a pretzel.  The tour includes a soft pretzel to enjoy now and a bag of miniature pretzels for later.

Hershey Farms & Landis Valley Show Package

Step back in time…to a bygone era at the beautiful living history museum, Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum.  Here you will experience the lifestyle, cooking, farming and traditional crafts of the Pennsylvania German culture from 1740-1940.  See the 100-acre village by horse-drawn wagon and enjoy a tasting of traditional apple snitz, sticky buns and apple cider.  Lunch will be a PA Dutch, family style meal served at Hershey Farm Restaurant and Inn, followed by the side splitting Lancaster County Comedy Show by comedian and ventriloquist, Ryan Bomgardner. A “CLEAN” but hilarious show.  including Lancaster’s area attractions in the commentary.

Taste of the Towne Tour - A Progressive Food Tour

Start the day with a visit to the Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum.  Journey back through time as you get a glimpse of Pennsylvania German rural life and tour the kitchens, bake ovens, and open hearths with a Penn Dutch tasting.  Then you’ll tour the Kreider Dairy Farm, a modern working farm in the heart the Lancaster County farming valley.  Your coach will drive right through the huge barn that houses over 1,200 cows.  Stop at the milking parlor and watch cows ride the automated carousel.  Follow the entire dairy process from farm to fridge.

Next visit the beautiful Cameron Estate.  This grand 1805 mansion was built by President McKinley's great-great grandfather and was the rural retreat of Simon Cameron and his descendants. The Cameron’s were one of the most influential families of the Civil War and Victorian America. The Mansion has held lavish parties for visiting dignitaries and Republican governors in Pennsylvania and was converted to an Inn in 1981. Here you will enjoy a tour of the house and a hearty lunch which includes salad, entrée, chef’s starch and vegetable.

Venture out onto the “roads less traveled”, through the heart of the Amish Farmlands.  Enjoy picturesque scenery, pristine Amish farms, one-room schoolhouses, windmills and farmers working the fields while your guide shares interesting and little-known facts about Amish history, customs and lifestyle.  Your last stop is the front porch of an Amish homestead.  Here you’ll be welcomed into a real Amish home as their guests to enjoy a truly authentic, homemade Pennsylvania Dutch dessert.
