Creating Environmentally Friendly
and Beneficial Gardens
Speaker: Bob Goodhart
One of the most compelling topics in gardening today is how to do so by being good stewards of the environment as we garden while optimizing the benefits for us and our families. The program will be in three parts. The first hour will cover the principles of environmentally friendly gardening and how to apply them to your property and gardens. The second hour will cover landscape design techniques and plant selection with an emphasis on native plants and edibles. The third hour will be an open discussion/question-and-answer session where you will have the opportunity to get answers to your specific concerns.
Popular speaker and HSP volunteer Bob Goodhart served 25 years in the US Army, owned and operated his own landscaping business, and served as a landscape advisor to Christopher Newport University before moving to the Lancaster area a few years ago. Since then, he's devoted many hours to Landis Valley's Heirloom Seed Project: designing gardens (including the garden surrounding the entrance sign), helping to raise plants for the annual Herb & Garden Faire, and educating museum staff, volunteers and the public through high quality classes and lectures.
