2017 Summer Institute

Summers at Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum are both educational and fun.  Take a trip and discover the historical treasures of Southeastern Pennsylvania.  Learn a new skill and unearth a passion for a craft or trade. Make some new friends with people from all over the country.  It's all here at Landis Valley this summer.

Choose from the following classes and trips.  Important information about payment, meals, and accommodations for those with special needs follows the class list.

On this trip, we’ll head East to Doylestown to explore the collections of Henry Mercer, a contemporary of Henry K. Landis. The day will start at Fonthill Castle. Built between 1908-1912, Fonthill was the poured reinforced concrete estate of Henry Mercer, with 44 rooms, 18 fireplaces, more than 200 windows, and a collection of tiles and prints. Participants will then receive a rare, behind-the-scenes tour of the Bucks County Historical Society’s Storage and Collection Center, which is closed to regular visitors. After lunch, the day will conclude with a self-guided tour of the Mercer Museum’s 55 exhibit rooms and alcoves filled with tools and products of almost every early American craft, trade, and occupation. Lunch is provided.
